LINO OVIEDO RETURNS TO PARAGUAY.
FOZ DE IGUAZÚ, (CIN) Former General Lino Oviedo, who
lives in Brazil since the end of 1999,
has announced his return to Paraguay.
Last September 23, Oviedo celebrated his 60th birthday
together with his wife Raquel Marín (who comes from the Argentina
province of Corrientes) in the Brazilian city of Foz de Iguazu,
in what is known as the Triple Frontera (Triple Border) formed
by the above mentioned Brazilian city, the Argentine city
of Puerto Iguazú, and the Paraguayan city of Ciudad
del Este, located 390 km East of Asunción. On that
occasion, Oviedo asked his supporters to maintain the opposition
to the government of Nicanor Duarte Frutos, who has taken
office as President more than a month ago.
Oviedo said to his supporters and friends: “This is
the last birthday that I celebrate outside the country; next
year we will be together again in our beloved country”.
Oviedo is the president of the Unión Nacional de Ciudadanos Éticos
party (UNACE).
In the national elections conducted last April 27, the “oviedism” won
a number of seats in the House of Representatives and the
Senate.
Representative Gustavo Musi stated: “We met with our
leader and we talked about different issues, mainly politics.
He asked us to follow the line of opposition to the government
which despite being brand new belongs to the old corruption
structure.”
